El Salvador’s President Nayib Buquele reported on Twitter that 1.6 million Salvadorans, or about 25% of the population, are already using the Chivo bitcoin wallet.
The country’s president also added that the number of users of this cryptocurrency wallet will grow.
Buquele previously wrote that as of Friday, September 17, 2021, 1.1 million Salvadorans had installed the app.
Considering that bitcoin did not become legal tender in the country until September 7, 2021, these numbers are impressive. This means that almost a quarter of El Salvador’s population has access to payment services, made possible only by BTC.
Before this event, seventy percent of El Salvador’s working population did not use banking services, so digital assets have changed the financial geopolitics.
Despite the growth of application installations, the majority of citizens, namely 70 percent, do not want to use bitcoin for regular transactions.
